“At some point… we all have to just take a deep breath and REMEMBER, in the end, it will work out. Until then: SMILE! mk.”
Michael Steven Kowalewski passed away on Sunday, July 18 at the age of 22. Mike worked at Whitmoor Country Club and was attending Lindenwood University with plans to become a professional athletic trainer. Mike “Kovi” was a tremendous athlete and a proud member of the St. Louis Royals Rugby Club. He was a passionate fisherman and hunter who spent hours on Facebook and the Missouri Whitetail message boards. He had a huge heart of gold, great sense of humor and constantly had a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
Mike was born in St. Louis, MO on October 29, 1987 and is survived by his parents Linda and Chester, his sister Lisa and brother David. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents John and Joyce Clark, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends whom he considered family. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Chester Sr. and Tillie Kowalewski and cousin William “Bill” Miller.
In lieu of flowers, Mike would have wanted any donations to be made to the St. Louis Royals Rugby Club (mail to 7326 Canton Ave, St. Louis, MO 63130) or Missouriwhitetails.com to benefit disabled hunters (by clicking on the paypal button on their home page).

I only knew of kovi and met him a couple of times but I was a freshman and he was a junior the first time I saw him was at like 5 am waiting to go in the weight room and I was scared with all these upper classmen around. I just remember kovi with protein shake in hand walk past me and say you'll be alright like he knew I was scared. that takes a one of a kind person and I wasn't going to write on here but I just want mikes family to know from a random person you had a very great son, a son who cared about others more than himself. stay strong you know he is.

Dear Mr & Mrs Kowalewski and Family - I do not know "Kovi" or you but I happened to be looking at someone's obituary and Kovi's obiturary caught my eye as we was so young so I thought I would take a quick look and see a few of the memories of this young person. I was awe struck and don't think I have ever seen such nice words written by so many people. I read every one of these messages and feel as if I know "Kovi" and wish he was still here so I could become friends with him. I have never commented on anything like this before but just felt moved to tell you what a great and inspiring son you raised and you should be VERY proud. There are not many people in this world who would have such kind words written about them by so many different people. As we all know he is in a better place and you have one heck on an Angel to watch out over all of you. Be proud of the son/man you raised. He has inspired me to be a better person just from reading the kind words written by him. You all have my sympathy and prayers. I hope to raise my son and daughter as you have yours!

I never knew Mike but hearing his story and reading how much he affected so many lives, I can tell he was a great person to be around and will live forever in the memory of the many he touched. I heard the song "If I die young" by Perry on the radio today and immediately thought of Mike. The song sounds like a perfect fit for a man who lost his life way to early. Listen to it and remember that he is looking down on all those he touched.
